Invariably, as we trek down the road to adulthood, we must bypass our inclination to pursue foolish puppy love, and reckless lust in favor of a more stable “adult relationship.” Gone are the days when we can merely “hookup” or “tap that,” as adults we become standard bearers to the ever important idealized American dream. After an exasperating run, I returned to my apartment to find an awkward black baby bird flailing at my entrance way. I live in a basement apartment and my doorway is below street level. This misplaced youngling endured a brutal fall and was yelping vigorously at my feet. I scrambled to recover this little bird and was reluctant to leave it alone in fear that it would be dinner for one of the feral cats in my neighborhood. More »

When two people get married and start a family there are no promises. There are no books or classes on how to make a marriage and a family work. We enter these relationships with high expectations but with few skills. We do the best we can, hoping things last and we live happily ever after. It all seems quite simple but we know there’s so much more. More »

As the song says, “There’s a thin line between love and hate”…it seems

I think of fairy tales and adventures with princesses and dragons…I think of books about overcoming obstacles, sharing and embracing others… I think of books that develop cognitive and literacy skills…What I don’t think of is plastic surgery… More »

In an ah-hah moment, I remembered something he has told me previously –“you the black Power Ranger,” he said. I realized it’s the toys. More »

From that day on you belong to two people called a mother and father. While we become parents with little or no skills to prepare us for life on our own let alone a person with children. More »

My girl told me her man was on vactation for two weeks so he picked up the slack everynight while she was on the grind. She said she came home to an immaculate house with dishes cleaned, floors vacuumed, clothes folded and dinner ready when she got home. She said the extra time gave her a chance to take a long bubble bath, in which he joined her — it was a slice of heaven, to hear her tell it. More »

As men, we sometimes take women for granted. So in celebration of Women’s History Month, I want to share my thoughts on a woman that I looked up to growing up; a who’s woman superceded every expectation that I had in the world; a women “Sweeter than cotton candy, stronger than grandpa’s brandy.” More »

I woke up this morning pondering a few thoughts and questions and I was hoping someone (anyone) could enlighten me…
Recently, my cousin bought a new whip, the 2008 BMW 1 Series Coupe 128i fully loaded with add-ons like the CD/MP3 player combo, multi-channel amps and subwoofers, OEM and IPod interfaces, plus toys I didn’t even know were in existence yet. More »
