I’m sure you’ve noticed the lack of new content over the past few days. I’m writing to let everyone know not to worry—we haven’t gone anywhere. In fact, we’ve been working hard behind the scenes to get the bugs out and make TROUBL better and better. Building this site is like a car race—updating and upgrading the site requires an occasional pit stop and tune up. Some of the improvements we’re making are
easily apparent, while others are less so. More »
Surprise. It’s that time again—time to bear gifts!
This week, we’ve brought you two new pieces of functionality. First, we’ve introduced the “See Also” feature at the bottom of each post page. This addition provide depth to each article and helps readers explore other relevant posts they may have missed. Second, We’ve added a “Recent Comments” feature to the sidebar. More »
I recall a time in my life when I refused to go back to an ex-boyfriend. Once the ties were cut between us it was time to move on. My motto was, “there’s was no going back only moving forward.” More »
It has become common place to tell youth to “be themselves” in almost any given situation. “Be yourself. Seemingly genuine people will get to know the real you and like you all the better for it. Be yourself.” I can’t count how many times I must have heard that growing up. While this may sound like good advice, it is an unrealistic ideal in the Black experience. More »
I’ve been having issues lately with the lack of manners in New York. No surprise there, since New Yorkers are infamous for rudeness, but sometimes people go beyond the call of being New Yorkers. When, for no immediately obvious reason, an older woman, somewhat resembling Martin Lawrence in Big Momma’s House, decided to take the seat next to me. More »
This is a military state. No one in or out without the support and sanction of Giuliani. If you are not one of his people or have enough cash in your pocket to make the cops think twice about unlawfully searching you, you are trapped and under curfew. Any inclination to the boys in blue, that you might be a little off color to them, could mean that you’ll end up with a few more holes in your car by the time you’ve made it back to your apartment. I spent much of my childhood admiring and riding horses. I loved everything about them and learned all I could - I read avidly, asked a lot of questions, and became a big fan of Thoroughbred racing. I have always watched the Triple Crown races (The Kentucky Derby, the Preakness, and the Belmont Stakes - the three biggest races in the world) religiously and I spend the weeks leading up to the Derby in a state of high excitement. I’ve researched the industry, and spent a lot of time on horseback, so I’ve gotten to know a lot about horses and how they are raced. More »
